Tour du Jour Training

Sunday, July 23rd, 2000

For the past two years, I’ve ridden on the MS Society Tour du Jour, a sponsored ride along the Peninsula, with cyclists from Stanford C-Ya!. In previous years, the weeks leading up to the ride, we often got together for some training rides. While I will not be making the Tour du Jour ride this year, I did go on the first training ride. I met up with old-time cycling buddies such as Felix Wong, Joe Norman, and Dan Lieb, along with first timers, Laura Guy and Sam Crews. We did a short, relaxing ride from the Stanford Post Office to Cãnada Road and back.

A Place Like Cheers

Over the three years that I was manager, I was happy to see that the establishment had become a place where people knew your name and came to enjoy the ambiance and atmosphere. Unlike the more stuffy eating locales on campus, such as the CoHo or Tresidder, the Teahouse had that homelike air to it. Hair

Friday, July 14th, 2000

The length and style of your hair often determines how you remember an important event or time in your life. When you see a picture of yourself from the past, the most distinguishing feature of you, aside from your clothes or glasses, is your hair. If it was long, a guy might recall the rebel days of youth. If it’s really short or shaved, a former military person might be reminded of his/her service days. Finally, if someone’s bald, seeing a picture of him with hair might depress him to no end or delight them if they prefer the Mr. Clean look. As for me, when I think of the time I spent in France, I can’t help but picture myself with long hair. And, when I reminisce about 1999, I can’t help but picture myself with very short or a shaved head.

Journal Writing

Monday, July 10th, 2000

There’s one lesson to be learned from reading this article: Write in a journal!

I’ve been writing in a journal since I was in ninth grade. The earliest dated entry was January 18, 1990, which is over ten years ago (today, my journal weighs in at over 9 megabytes)! Because of writing in my journal, I’ve been able to mark my progress mentally, physically, and emotionaly over that period of time. My journal is filled with its fair share of great accomplishments, depressing low points, and everything in between. Because of my journal, I’m able to look back on certain moments in my life and have them flash across my mind as if they happened yesterday. If you haven’t found out already, your memory tends to fade rather quickly as you gain in years! Writing in a journal is an excellent means to capturing the moment, capturing your thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

Four-Leaf Clovers, fact or fiction? The finder of one of these rare flowers is said to have found good luck and fortune.

Four-Leaf Clovers, fact or fiction? The finder of one of these rare flowers is said to have found good luck and fortune. Have you ever found a four-leaf clover? Have you ever wondered if they were real or just a myth? Let me tell you that these clovers exist, although they are very rare to find among the morass of their three-leafed brothers and sisters.
