Four-Leaf Clovers, fact or fiction? The finder of one of these rare flowers is said to have found good luck and fortune. Have you ever found a four-leaf clover? Have you ever wondered if they were real or just a myth? Let me tell you that these clovers exist, although they are very rare to find among the morass of their three-leafed brothers and sisters.

Flower fields in Japan
Flower fields in Japan.

Finding one for the first time fills you with a sense of accomplishment and hope; if you can find a rare four-leaf clover, perhaps, you can find some of the more important things in life. Finding subsequent ones only serves to reinforce that belief and hope.

Four-Leaf Clover History

Here are some of the places where I've found four-leaf clovers around the world, in reverse chronological order. When you're finished reading my search highlights, check out my final thoughts on four-leaf clovers.

August 29, 1997: Stanford University

I don't know where I found it, but I did write the following in my journal that day:

Found a four leaf clover today; just looked down and said to myself,
"Sometimes, you just find them," and there is was. Didn't suck.

If you are a fan of Frank Miller, you'll notice the last quote, "Didn't suck," is from his The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel, one of the finest works ever created in the comic industry.

March 16, 1997: Frost Amphitheater, Frost Amphitheater, Stanford University

There must be a mutant strain of four-leaf clovers at Frost, because I literally found a cache of six of them in a ten minute timeframe with Thomas Ritter. Curiously enough, it was St. Patrick's Day that day!

August 29, 1995: Château de Fontainbleau, France

Taking a break from wandering around the palatial grounds, I stopped by a clover patch and started searching. Low and behold, I found on, thousands of miles away from my home!

June 12, 1995: Faculty Ghetto, Stanford University

I found two four-leaf clovers at Terry Winograd's house in the faculty ghetto at Stanford and gave them to a classmate of mine, Michelle Gee, who was studying hard for finals and deciding her summer plans at the time.

May 30, 1995: Xanadu, Stanford University

I had just finished a interview for a class I was taking at the end of my sophomore year at Stanford. I was walking out the interviewer when I just looked down and immediately saw one amongst a sea of its three-leafed relatives!

198?: Standley Middle School, San Diego, California

Walking back from elementary school on day, I found one growing in the large expanse of green lawn at William H. Standley Middle School. Alas, I broke one of the leaves when I tried to extract the rare clover from the ground. As such, the four-leaf clover became a common three-leaf clover.

Final Thoughts

When all is said and done, I've found at least 12 four-leaf clovers throughout the years. As you can see, it's been a few years since I last found one, but I haven't stopped searching. If you haven't ever stopped at a clover patch and wondered if four-leaf clovers exist, I encourage you to take a few minutes and start looking.

Enjoy this moment of investigation and discovery, for while you may or may not find one, realize that sometimes, like many things in our lives, it's just the quest which makes all the difference.

Reader Comments

I have found hundreds of hundreds of clovers. I used to collect them because I think they are pretty. I stopped when my younger brother flushed my collection into the toilet to get back at me. I still find them, however I very rarely pick them. I pick them now only to have a center piece on my dining room table. The green matches my china dish set.

Seeing as you have a bit of trouble finding them I will give you a few pointers. First is that four leaf clovers are just 3 leaf clovers that has lived a longer life. I know this because I have found many 3 leaf clovers with a fourth leaf considerably smaller than the rest. Due to this you have to look into patches that are overgrown. Secondly, look for them at the beginning of summer and so on. You will find them in the spring but they will be few a far between findings.

I found a four leaf clover some years ago but I have pressed it and I hope to keep it forever. When I found it I was just walking and I just happened to look down and it was sitting there in beside the 3 leafed ones. It stood out, its was like magic was pouring out of it. Im only 16 and I hope to find many more.

Thanx as this web site has been very interesting.

In the last two days I have found 27 four leaf clovers. Ever since I was a little girl I have had a knack for finding them. All together I have naturally found over 100 four leaf clovers. I have a seven leaf clover as well, which is the most I've ever seen. My question is: What is the "record" number of four leaf clovers found by one person? Is such a record recorded?

I was moving into a house one day and there are a ton of clover patches so I thought oh what the hell and decided to give a quick look and within two days I found twenty four-leaf clovers and even one five leaf one.

Today, I just found my first four leave clover. In my front yard while doing some yard work. I went down the stairs leading to the basement to clean fallen leafs from a water drain. There down the stairs, was a whole patch of clovers, and the four leave clover was there standing out by itself. I have placed in my Bible.

I have a particularly cool clover plant it is about 8 inches in diameter. This plant rarely produces three leaf clovers. In fact a search for four leaf clover is done in the midst five and six leaf clover. We have found over 50 fifty four leaf clover from this plant since July of last year when we found it. We are hoping to propogate this plant into many more plants this year. I guess the Irish are smiling on me.

I think God is doing something special this year with clovers. I have found several in a short period of time. Each time I ask God for one, I find one almost immediately. I knew this was a God thing, but today, I was in a store and overheard a lady in front of me say the exact same thing. She said, "I think God is doing something special with four leaf clovers this year". Then, she handed me a five leaf clover as a blessing. She said she had found 130 in the past 3 weeks.

I throw shot put and discus on my high school track team. When we were in Frankfort, IN at their throwing area I sat there waiting for my turn and found nearly 25 in less then an hour. Well it's been a few weeks since i've seen one and today I picked up my disc and there was a 5 leaf clover. I've never seen or heard of one before and either had anyone on the team so it was passed around and put in my sock for good luck. Then I wondered if 5 leaf clovers are good luck. Do any of you guys know???I would appreciate any help or opinions. Thanks.

my 19 year old nephew just recently passed away from a 3 year battle with leukemia. he loved everything that had to do with ireland and wished he was irish, he even kept his hair dyed red. a few days after his funeral, his brother went out to mow the lawn and found a 4 leaf clover just by stopping and looking down. he ran inside to show my sister and his father had him show where he found it. there were about 20 or so 4 leaf clovers in a patch and we believe that was a message from my nephew to his family that he is ok and in a good place now.

I guess I have "luck" when it comes to looking for four leaf clovers. I have found 4 in the past two months underneath my kitchen window in a patch of grass since moving to my new home. Before that I had found 30 in a space of 40 mins. I was in junior high school and we had an agricultural plot at the back of the high school. The grass was always full of clover beds, some even had "5" and "6" leaves. What do you think? "luck" or just "Freaky"?

Right now, I'm 20 years old. I think I found my first four-leaf clover when I was about 13 or so, I still have it framed because it was such a big deal. But over the years, I've found hundreds of four-leaf clovers in various places. It seems I can find one in about any place I look. It's rather strange because I can be walking anywhere and happen to glance down and it's like they jump out to where I can see them. After you've found so many, they're easier to spot in a patch by just looking down without real close inspection. Many of my family and friends consider me to be particularly lucky because of this, so I often give them away to spread the "luck." Honestly, I don't really think of myself as being extra lucky because of this talent. I just think of myself as having a keen eye.

There is a patch of clovers in my front yard where you can find 4-leaf clovers at any time. There are more 4-leaf clovers than 3-leaf clovers in the patch. If they bring good luck I'm still waiting! I have hundreds of them and I give many away to people. Good luck to all those looking!!

My Dad passed away 2 months ago. I went to visit his grave today, which was surrounded by clovers (3-leaf of course!). I have spent my entire life trying to find a four-leaf clover, and have never been lucky. Well, I was talking to my Dad and said, "Hey Dad, it would be so cool to find a four-leaf clover here because I've never found one!" I looked down and there it was-my first four-leaf clover. A tiny thing but it was probably the coolest moment of my life! Thanks Dad!

since i was a teen (i'm now 39), 4-leaf clovers have found me practically every time i look down... no matter the location... ranging in sizes from 3/8 inch to about 4 inches in diameter. i DON'T look for them- they just stand out from the rest. I can even be at a regular walking pace and stop in my tracks because one "called me back" 3 strides ago! i've kept most of them thru my life and have pressed many... ones i forget to press end up in a jar. i now have a piece of glass on my coffee table and started putting them beneath it... they dry quite nice and are interesting to see displayed instead of in a book between pages. i've been fortunate enough to also have many 5 and 6 leafers and my record, one 7 leaf clover. guess it bummed me out to find that people are engineering these to grow once i started searching--- it is sad that the steam may be taken out of the whole idea of a 4-leafer being unique and hard to find just for someone to make a buck (somewhat an american way in my eyes and feelings- big bummer to me). Over the years i have collected so many and now i frame them and give them as gifts to new parents, graduates, retirees, newly married couples and even just a pick-me-up for those that are not experiencing good things in their lives. i know i can't take them with me when i go, so giving seems to be the best solution... and it has unintentionally become my trademark of sorts--- my friends and family look forward to getting one... and when there are several events in one family they can have quite a collection! i encourage people to give them... i've never read where they can't give luck to others as they are passed on. there's always someone out there that can use a boost or like one writer wrote above, a smile. ironically, i am a graphic designer that has just taken on a logo project for a private school... during a meeting, imagine my delight when the client told me they would like to incorporate a 4-leaf clover into their logo!!! gave me chills... love those kind of sychronicities! (they had NO idea of my relationship with the clovers for all these years).

anyway, like i said, i encourage people to give them--- it feels good for both parties....

I have found eleven four leaf clovers this week. (Junellth-14th 2002.) I seem to spot them at a glance. I sense if there is one in a patch. I have always found them through the years but lately it doesn't seem to bring me luck. Maybe I have found to many. I could use some luck! Is there a special wish to make or say when you find one? I even share them with my family and friends. Still no luck for me.

I found 49 four-leaf clovers, however, not the way that one would expect. I was going through my great-Aunt Nellie Bartel's items[She had passed away years ago].

Aunt Nellie was a highly diciplined individual, who on her free time would pick blueberries in Massachusetts. I believe I stumbled upon a lifetime of her collection of four leaf clovers. She was good enough to keep them in a measurement book[she was a seamstress]. My dilemma is how to display them while keeping them preserved.

When I was small through my growing up years - we all searched for 4 leaf clovers and would occasionally find them and be happy - but when I was a Teenager - My boyfriend was killed in a tractor accident - and everywhere I looked - were 4 leaf clovers. The other people around me would look also - with no luck - and I could see nothing but 4 leaf clovers. It reached a point where I hated it - and I tried to not look at the ground - because I would always see one wherever I was. That was many years ago - Time has passed and I no longer have them jump at me when I look at the ground - however I definitely don't look for them. I hope to never find another in that fashion. To me - it became a Bad Luck sign.

My husband and I had never found a 4 leaf clover before this year. We were walking around our house and my husband looked down and spotted his first 4 leaf clover on 4/25/2002. I found my first one the very next day. Since then he has found a 5 leaf clover and my mother-in-law who had never found one before found a 6 leaf. Altogether we have found a total of 23 four leaf clovers, 1 five and 1 six leaf clover. We find our guests excited and eager to search the lawn for a lucky treasure. It's truely cool.

I have always looked for them off and on but to find this many in two days has just amazed me!. After reading all the letters I see it is happening all around. I wonder why? I LOVE all the clover stories! I consider myself a connoisseur Of sorts of clovers. I have been passionate about them my whole life! Indeed I have been finding even MORE than my "fair" share of them recently! when I was having radiation treatments this february, I would go outside to lunch at my work, and I started to find between 10 -20 each day! Of course I look for them.. thats how you FIND em! but these were just CALLING me..it was awesome! I have given each one of my Chorus members a clover.. ( over 125 of them) and my Director of course got a 5 leaf clover. I have just started to laminate them and frame them and have counted MORE than 450 of them. Recently I have discovered that they are my "spiritclover" and the proceeds from selling them will help to pay for a year long spiritual school that I have been balking at going to because of finances.. They have come to me at a time when, after cancer treatments, I must find a different way to "be" in life than I have been before. They are calling me to trust the spirit, that I will be taken care of. Peace to all who enter here.

I've been finding 4-leaf clovers for several years now, I kinda stopped counting after 30 or so, since I've become very spiritual over the years, I believe finding the rare clover is a divine connection with the angelic realm, as if they are assuring me that they are overlooking, guiding and protecting me, I feel very connected with the angels when I can so easily just look down at a patch, and pick one out almost instantly. I find them in very rare places, peoples yards, a 100 acre pumpkin patch, parking area's outside stores, hospital park grounds etc. The physiological feeling I get when I pick that 4 leaf clover is astronomically overwhelming, a surge of immense energy that illuminates my entire body!

Throughout my life I have found many four leaf clovers. I have also found many five leaf clovers. I found my first clover when I was around eight, it was a huge deal at that time. Everyone always said it was good luck. In one instance, I found somewhere around two hundred four leaf clovers in my backyard. I put them in a jar and took them to school. Everyone thought it was amazing. I did too at the time. Since then I have found probably thousands of them. I don't really look for them either, they just seem to pop out at me. I have friends that have never seen nor found a four leaf clover other than the ones I have found. According to this website, their not all that uncommon though. I do consider myself luck though.

I had to add my finds from last week

oct 1 - 1 five and 1 four leaf clover oct 2 - 2 four leaf clovers oct 3 - 15 four leaf clovers, 9 five leaf clovers and 1 seven leaf clover all in the same area! I have never found a seven before nor a six, but I will add them to my collection of a few hundred. The four leaf clover I found in Ireland is by far my most treasured. If anyone has tips on preserving the seven in a picture i would appreciate it - when exposed to air they seem to lose their colour over time something i want to prevent.

thanks and good luck to all the clover hunters, I believe that it takes special people to find them! or rather for the clover to find you.

4-leaf clovers aren't rare to me anymore. 5-leaf clovers aren't even anymore. What I like to find are the 6 and 7-leaf clovers. my goal is to find an 8-leaf. It is possible. I ran cross-country and that is how I found most of my clovers. I have found so many that I stopped counting. I like to give them as gifts sometimes. Most of them I have on display in my dorm in frames. I have found over 450 easily. I found 47 in about 10 min. once. I have only found 6 6-leaf and 1 7-leaf. I am known as clover-girl at my old high school. Good Luck in your searching!!

I have always been able to look down at a clover patch and those four leaves just jump out to me.My best friend and I will be walking around in my yard and I'll bend down and pluck one from a cluster and she just shakes her head and say's"You found another one? How many does that make now?" When I was a little girl, I would be walking to the car to go to church and look down and I would see one or more. I still have those pressed in my Bible after all those years. I too like to give them away,I've sent many over the years. I am also looking for a way to suspend them in some kind of clear resin maybe. I made a sculpture out of some kind of resin that you put in vases to hold the flowers in place with 7 4-leaf& 1 5-leaf in a heart shape.I too have found too many to count.

I posted a few months ago about finding my first four-leaf clover at my Dad's grave. Well, since then I've found about 10 or so. I know my Dad has a part in this! And last week, my daughter found a five-leaf clover! She was running through the yard and just happened to look down, and picked it out immediately. Thanks for the connection Dad!

I recently found an old book that I collected my four, five, six, and seven leaf clovers in (16 years ago). To whoever doesn't believe in four leaf clovers, is what you are trying to say is that you don't believe in what they stand for, or just that they simply don't exist? I have sifted through that book and after 16 yrs. still have a childhood collection of :
100+ four leaf
52 five leaf
22 six leaf
6 seven leaf
Now what do I do with them?

I found a patch of 4-leafed clovers in my backyard as a young girl. I was actually sitting there under that willow tree determined to find at least one. Needless to say, I am a stubborn soul, and would not give up until I did just that. So, I found a patch of them. My mother took most of them, I have one pressed. By the way, I am so very lucky. I have always known this, but the clovers just reinforce that I am a lucky soul. Thank you little clovers....

March 22, 1998

I found six four-leaf clovers this day. In the morning of same day I had asked God to help me find other work. I thought that Finding a four-leaf clover and getting it to multiply would be great. I did not pray for them But that afternoon I found them. I have had them ever since. I have grown over 10,000 of them.
I press them, frame them and put them in oil candles.
When my son is a little older I would like to start a business. I have sold them and made good money. I have grown up to a nine-leaf clover. When I pick them I thank God for them too. They are a sign that he loves me and will take care of me through hard times.
When I feel down and hard pressed. I go spend time in my clover beds. Hope and Happiness return to me not because of the clovers but because of Christ's promise " I will never leave you or forsake you" I like to think the four-leaf clover represents the Father, Son, and Holy-Spirit and US. Th five leaf
clover looks like a Jewish Star. The best ones to me have heart shaped leaves. Yes, If you ask God to give you a Four-leaf clover he does, he loves you too.

Today is Easter and this morning I went to the Cemetary with flowers to tell my mom about missing her at my party and I wondered what special gift she would have got me as she was always so creative in small wonderful ways. There was a patch of clover on her grave. I started to remove it thinking it looked like a weed and there smack in the middle was a four leaf clover. My very first. I have been touched by an angel.

ATTENTION FOUR LEAF CLOVER ADDICTS:

I've seen the question, "What is the 4-leaf clover record?" several times. Well, I've found over 300 in the past three years, my personal best is 119 in one day.
Big Deal...........keep reading.

Because, George Kaminski, a prisoner in Pennsylvania, holds the record at 74,927. I know............guess there isn't much else to do in prison.

The most leaves on a clover was reported by two men:
Paul Haizlip in Washington - 14 leafed red clover and
Randy Farland in South Dakota - 14 leafed white clover

Source: Guinness Book of World Records website.

My word, where do you people look? I spent most of the morning combing through every clover patch I could find in our yard, and I found nothing. Okay, I did find one that was like a three and a half leaf clover. One of the leaves had three sections instead of two. I don't know if that means good luck or not, but I kept it for lack of anything better. I also found some that looked like 2 leaf clovers. Maybe one of the leaves had just broken off, but they looked like they'd grown that way naturally. Does anyone know if there is such a thing? Well, I'm not going to obsess over finding a 4-leaf clover. Maybe if I looked for a long time I could find one, but I think I could make better use of my time. I'm lucky enough as it is.

My mother finds lucky clovers everywhere she goes. It took me all day to find three for my mother. I wanted to find three to give her for Mother's Day- one for each child she has. Legend says that finding a four-leaf clover is lucky but to find one and then give it to someone increases the luck because of the finder's selflessness in passing the luck to another. I hope that the clovers bring my mother lots of luck. No one deserves good luck for than a mother.

Hello,
I too think God must be doing something great with
four, five, and six leaf clovers this year of 2003.
I had not found any until this past week, now I have
numerous book pages filled with four, five, and even
six leaf clovers. People have given me both good and
bad reports when they find many clovers this way. I
did notice it was just family members that gave me
bad reports, so I think they may just be jealous.
I will continue to look for these clovers as I think
they are very pretty and fun to find. It would make
a great time user, relaxer, game, etc. for all.

I HAD A WONDERFUL THING HAPPEN, REGARDING 4 LEAF CLOVERS, AFTER MY BEST FRIEND DIED IN HER SLEEP AT A YOUNG AGE 6 WEEKS AGO. WE HAD MADE A PACT THAT WHOMEVER WENT INTO SPIRIT FIRST,WOULD TRY TO GIVE THE OTHER ONE A SIGN, SOMETHING OBVIOUS. I HAD ALWAYS FOUND 4 LEAF CLOVERS AS A CHILD BUT SINCE THEN, HAD ONLY FOUND THREE IN MY BACK YARD 13 YEARS AGO.I HAD A FRIEND WHO FOUND THEM ALL THE TIME AND SHE TRIED TO TEACH ME HOW TO LOOK FOR THEM BUT TO NO AVAIL. I LIVED IN CANADA THE LAST 8 YEARS AND THE WHOLE TIME I WAS THERE, I SEARCHED FOR THEM AND DID NOT FIND EVEN ONE. I WAS WALKING IN A PARK THINKING ABOUT MY FRIEND AND FELT HER AROUND ME, SO I SAID, 'OKAY, IF YOU REALLY ARE WITH ME, THEN DO SOMETHING AMAZING LIKE FIND ME A FOUR LEAF CLOVER'. THINKING THAT IN MY GRIEF I WAS IMAGINING IT, I HEARD HER GIVE ME DIRECTIONS TO MOVE TO A CERTAIN AREA AND LOOK THERE, THAT I WOULD FIND SEVERAL BUT THEY WERE SMALL AND I WOULD REALLY HAVE TO LOOK HARD. I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS I HEARD FROM HER, ABOUT WHERE TO GO AND KNELT DOWN, THERE WERE 20 FOUR LEAF CLOVERS! AS I CONTINUED ON MY HIKE, I HEARD HER VOICE SAY TO ME,
" OH, IF YOU LOOK OVER THERE TO YOUR LEFT, THERE IS A GREAT BIG ONE." AND INDEED THERE WAS. I IMMEDIATELY KNEW THAT THIS WAS THE SIGN WE HAD AGREED ON AND THE SADNESS OF LOSING HER LIFTED FROM ME, BUT BEING A DEMANDING FRIEND, A WEEK LATER, IN THE SAME PARK, I SAID OUTLOUD, " OKAY, IF THAT REALLY WAS YOU THEN FIND ME A FIVE LEAF CLOVER!' I HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD OF MORE THAN FOUR LEAF CLOVERS, UNTIL I READ THIS WEBSITE. I walked to the area I heard her tell me to and found one! I heard her voice say to me," there now do you belive me!" I plan to take the prettiest picture I can find of her, and place the clovers around it, with this story tucked behind the frame for her grandchildren to find when they are older. Special clovers are a blessing! I am amazed at the people who have found hundreds, there must be something very special about you. I have heard that four leaf clovers sometimes grow where a small meteorite has fallen.

I have found nine 4-leaf clovers in exactly one week, and 3 five leaf clovers, all in my yard. It started last friday when I found two five-leafers accidentally by sitting down in a swing where I do outside. Today I found one five leaf clover 3 feet away from the original plant, and one four leaf clover about a foot from the original plant (today is Friday the 13th!!!) All of these, I've found in my own yard. One of the four leafers was too badly messed up to pick but I've pressed all the rest. I also used to pick them as a kid, and press them inside the encyclopedia set my parents had. The key to finding them is simple - genetics. The plants which produce the four and five leaf clovers are genetic mutants, which is why some people have actually cultivated these plants in order to grow the four and five leaf clovers. Once you find a four leaf clover, you know that the same plant/patch is likely to have more, so it makes the most sense to keep looking in that plant or patch. Happy Hunting!

All my life I have found them and I tried to train my neice but she was to busy when she was small so I have knowone to carry this on. You have to train your eyes for the four leaf and not even see the three's at all. On wedding, anniversaries, birthdays and graduations is the time that I go to my Bible where I store them and take one out for that person. I have one glazed in gold that I wear around my neck from time to time. Usually when you find one you will find another very close by and more. Please email me with the ones to pick as the five or the seven or six one of them is bad luck so I do not pick them anymore. Also today I found a five and a seven leaf but they are still out in the yard standing. The FOUR LEAF CLOVER is one of God's wonders for us to admire and cherrish as GOOD LUCK...

Over the period of three days I have found 100+ four and five leaf clovers, they were all in my back yard. I am hoping to find a six or serven leaf clover. All of my clovers are placed in wax paper to preserve them. My advice for finding them is if you see a four leaf clover keep looking in the area you found it in, you will find many more!

I have been looking for four leaf clovers for many years. In about 1984 I found my first four leaf clover. Until this point I have found about 50 four leaf clovers. A few weeks ago, on Friday the 13th while attending my nephew's graduation in Virginia; I said a pray to find a four leaf clover for my nephew as a gift. While unsuccessful on the 13th on the 14th of June 2003 I found a perfect four leaf clover for my nephew. My nephew(Lyle) and I immeadiatly went out and discovered 3 more four leaf clovers and a six leaf in his yard. On further investigation my 2 nephews(Lyle,Bob) and I discovered a patch which harvested 90 four leaf clovers in a space of 18 inches. And there is still more growing. Bob's Botany teacher said that is was a gentic anamoly. Also, which when I was in Virginia my daughter Victoria found a four leaf clover as well, and she has been finding them at least 3 times a year from 3 years ago.

I haven't found a four left clover in many years. in the last 5 days I have found 4. This fact has amazed my friends who (for the most part) have never seen one. So I have been giving the 4 leaf clovers away to them.

I have found a five and 6 leaf clover. But the most amazing one I found was at the base of a water fall in Indiana (Evansville to be exact). I found a 28 leaf clover. I was quite young at the time and have since lost it. in retrospect, I wish I had found it much later and had taken it to then Guinness Book of World Records.

I work in Issaquah, WA and think they're getting their fertilizer from Hanford (radiation capitol). In the last 3 months I've found over 300 4-leaf clovers (as well as a couple dozen 5-leafers & 4 or 5 6-leaf clovers) around the buildings at work. Yesterday I found 24 4-leaf clovers and 1 5-leaf clover in less than 10 minutes. I've had periods of finding lots since I was a kid. Seems the main 'luck' they give me is to find more!

I have always had a propensity for finding 4-leaf clovers for as long as I can remember. I can be walking along talking to someone and just catch the sight of one out of the corner of my eye-but I notice always to my right side. This afternoon, walking at a baseball field with my 9 year old son, I caught sight of one. We stopped to pick it and found another, and other...
My son said "Wouldn't it be funny to find a five-leaf clover?" At exactly that moment, I pointed one out to him. Within 5 minutes we had picked 24 4-leaf clovers and 5 5-leaf clovers. I had to tear my son away for we had to pick up his sister. That was a record for me.

This website is simply awesome with all this information! Good job love. I wish there were pictures, but then again just the text is good enough. Unlike the rest who say that they have found 8,000 or so clovers or just many many clovers, I have only found two. I have always liked the belief or four leaved clovers and keep a lookout for them, but I find that I actually find them when I don't look. For instance, there were major exams in Malaysia when I was 12, and I had gone to play badminton in a nearby field. The shuttlecock landed in a muddy area and as I bent down to pick it up; there it was, the perfect four leaf clover. Delighted, I kept it in my revision books and I got straight A's. Strangely, after that my little clover just disappeared. I was kind of sad as it was always a little comfort to me, but I didn't brood on it. Well, I'm 15 now, and major exams are here again. Before this, I had never really set out to find four leaf clovers, but I had a friend, Wil and I figured it would be cool if I could find a four leaf clover and give it to him ( giving them away doubles your luck, apparently). I was supposed to do the laundry before setting out and looking for it, and I slipped on the slippery floor, and found a four leaf clover plant growing out of a crevice. I was so happy! I told my friend rightaway and gave it to him, and he keeps it in his revision books. I believe my luck has been doubled. A recent concert was awesome, my grades keep getting better and better and all is working out. I hope it'll bring him luck, and right now, I'm hoping to find another one that I can keep, or maybe pass to someone that I love. It's always a joy to see their expression when they get a four leaf clover. It may take a long time, but you can't rush miracles, so I'll just enjoy life as it is, and when a four leaf clover comes along, I'll just pick it and keep it safe with me. Good luck to the rest of the clover hunters, and God bless.

My first 4-leaf-clovers I saw was 2 years ago, which is year 2001. It was precious and memorable which I found with my best friend that time, Law Kah Ee. Both of us get very good results in a big exam, which everybody of that age have to participate. We got all the A(s). We saw it in school, after the reults had been released for a few days.

I have found four leaf clovers in Nebraska, N. Carolina and Chicago area. They seem more common in the midwest and south than in the northeast or northwest parts of the country. Haven't found any in N. Mexico or Texas.

In Omaha in the early 50's a lady used to give my mother eight leave clovers almost every time she came over through our yard. I have found several eight leaf, myself. When in Durham, NC, I used to find about one per day and turned in my computer run to the computer tech with a four leaf clover every time. Not sure it helped luck-wise, but they knew who I was.

My family and I were at Penn's Cave in Centre Hall today. We were resting. The fields are all clover. I decided to look for a 4 leaf clover--I have yet to ever find one. As I was looking, I noticed an unusual looking clover leaf near my 1 1/2 year old son's feet. I picked it from the ground and to my amazement the thing had 5 leafs! I found a 5 leaf clover. I think I should also note that my son was born on St. Patrick's Day. From the day my son was born, I have called him "Our Pot of Gold"

Oct 5/2003 Today I found my first 4 leaf clover ever. Then I found a five leaf clover just minutes later. I was only glancing down as we walked. Then, to my dismay, my dog ate the four leaf clover from the change tray in the car on the way home. Oh well! I still have the five leaf clover. The four leaf clover was much more symmetrical, though.

I found 1472 clovers with four, five and six leaves from the Red, White and Yellow clover. I'm writing a book right now about the four leaf clover, the stories and my own theories. Who can help me with a scan from a sevenleaf or even more leafs? Please mail it to me with your name and the photo resolution must be 300 dpi, saved as .jpg. Your name will be in the book with your clover. Tip: look for White clover! Because of their way of duplicating (by seed and through the ground) they have the most four- and five leaves. SEND PICTURES PLEASE!!

I have been looking in every clove patch since I was 5 years old and well this month I will be turning 44 years old and today I found a four leaf clover. I was truly very happy. So happy I was shocked. After all these years I found one and to be very honest it came at the right time. Down on my luck. No job for over 6 years due to a injury, no income for the past 2 years. well today after finding the clover I received a check for a motorcycle I have been trying to sell for the past year and a half. All I can say. "I FEEL GOOD" and thank you for this great website. I had to tell somebody about the clover.

There's lots of clover in the grass outside my office. Sometimes, if I'm not in a hurry, I tend to take a look for four-leaved ones..
So far: 6 this year, (and 3 in one day - talk about a lucky day!)

I usually press them between the pages of a book and give them to friends in need of some luck.

I have always felt a connection to the shamrock because of the fact that I come from scottish heritage as well as the fact that my aunt who died when I was really young used to look for them with me all the time and the last time anyone saw her before her death, she was croutched down in the yard with me looking for four leaf clovers. I am getting one tattooed on my left hipbone soon and have shamrock earrings and two four leaf clovers that I found growing in my backyard laminated and put in a space that was made for either a picture or an I.D. in the side of my purse, next to the patch I have sewn on there. I am, however still looking for a belly button ring with a shamrock design on it and if anyone knows where to find one, please drop me a line on the message boards at my website. This year has been my "awakening". Not sure what it all means, but the 8 four leaf clovers I found in Sept. make me aware of finding them as "miracles of grace". Today I found a 7 leaf one. Clovers fix nitrogen from the air- breatharians fix nutrition from the air. Is the changing consciousness moving suddenly more rapidly? Last year I published a gentle romantic novel "An Autumn at Lake Ann". Maybe I need to have the sequel include a clover finding hero...

Almost a year after my partner and I had met, my Grandad took my partner to his special clover patch that held many four leafs. My partner picked one and gave it to me, as a goodluck gift for our relationship and the years to come. There has been many years and children, and things really couldn't be more perfect. I've treasured this clover since that day and keep it on my mirror. My Grandad died this year and I treasure him even more for the kind loving thought he did for us. His special patch is still there, which we don't disturb it. Today I'ts my Grandad's birthday and I just had a feeling I would find one today, so as it happened I was in my back yard cleaning the kids swimming pool, I looked down and there was a clover patch, within seconds I had found one,now I have celletaped it to a card for my partner and can't wait for him to get home from work. Thanks Grandad and God for leading me to this clover I have so wanted to find.

First, here is a four leaf clover prayer:

One leaf is for Hope,
One is for Faith,
One is for Love, and
One is for Luck.
If you keep one with you wherever you go,
You good luck will continue to grow!

I remember someone from my youth saying that 4 leaf clovers are left behind where leprechauns (sp) walked.

I have found dozens in a day - probably the most found was at the cemetery. Probably 4 dozen or so in one sitting. I think all of the clovers on the same root system end up having four leaves.

I have found many 5,6 & 7 leaf clovers. One of the largest I ever found was a five leaf. It as about 2 1/2 inches across. I laminated it and have it on my fridge. They are much rarer than the 4 leaf. I've found maybe just a dozen of the 5 & 6 and just a couple of the 7 leaf clovers. One of the smallest 4 leaf clovers I found was barely 1/4 inch long.

The best palce to find them is in large clumps of clover - big mounds of it. You have to have an "eye" for it. The best way to look is to teach yourself to pick out what is different in a large group. What is different will start to stand out in almost everything you look at - and most likely you will always look at things differently than most people! Sometimes I will be out walking and just stop, because I "feel" a four leaf is near. I know that sounds strange, but it happens. I think once you start to see things differently, different things start to look for you!!

I started finding clovers before gradeschool. I remember sitting in the Elliott's backyard and looking for them in the summer. They had a pool, and we had mandatory breaktime so we wouldn't get waterlogged. We would take our towels out to the grass and wait for the next swim time. Neat site! I found a 4 leaf clover dried and pressed inside a book. Must have been there for ages. Years ago I found a 3 1/2 leaf clover (the third and fourth leaves were not completly seperated. I got encouraged and kept looking and finally found a four leafer.

According to an old edition of the Guinness Book of World Records the most leaves ever found on a true clover are fourteen.

This is just a follow-up to my above comment, dated February 28, 2004.

I have been doing some research on four leaf clovers and found that most four leafers come from the "red clover" and the "white clover" plants. I have spent a lot of time looking for one in my "sweet clover" patch but without seeing one, so far. I just wanted to pass that bit of info on to those of you who may be looking through your yard. I don't believe in "luck", but happy hunting and have fun! -Steve

Sure, there are not any photos on this site of four leaf clovers but if you go to Google and punch in "four leaf clovers" you will see tons of photos. Theres' even one photo of a flower pot with a clover plant in it and EVERY stem has a four leaflet at the end of it! I'm not lying!! Punch in "four leaf clover" + "Brazil" and it should take you to that site. Its' the coolest thing I ever saw! Let us know what you find. Have fun.

I found a four leaf clover today, and also a six leaf clover. I was surfing the web, and I found this sight, and thought hey, why not. I can't believe how many four leaf clovers some of you have found. I am only twelve though, and I hope to find more. I met a girl that also had "four-leaf clover luck", she had tons of them pressed in her bible. I never knew there was such a thing as a five, six, or seven leaf clover, till I found a six leaf. I was really exited when I found the clover. at first I thought it was a mutant.

Finding a four leaf clover is a magical thing almost. Mainly because of the rarity of them, and the fact that many people all say (even if they don't believe) that they bring good luck. My theory is that the four leaf clover is a symbol of a childhood belief in magic that we can carry over into our adulthood. Are there any others that we can? As adults we are no longer able to believe in those magical elements like Santa, the Toothfairy, or even fairytales. We have grown up and all the childish belief in magic is below us, except when we happen to be around where the clovers are growing. Now we can give up being an adult for just a few minutes and crawl around on the ground looking for that one four leaf clover that will give us the luck (confidance) that we need.
That is my theory, and it is only that, a theory.
As far as finding clovers, I have found quite a few in my lifetime. Last summer I found over twenty in three weeks time in front of my grandmothers door, though a few of them had five or six leaves instead of just four.
Have fun hunting.

When I saw my friend out side I told what happend and she said,\"Your so lucky!\" Then a second four leaf clover popped out near the place I fond mine. As we were there we found four more of four leaf clovers in the same place. Will my neighbor and I have good luck? Is there a leporckan living under my house, will there be a pot of gold? Is there such thing as a wish that you make from a four leaf clover?

But inside the card there was a poem, she didn\'t keep the card so she couldn\'t remember all of it but she knew the first line was \'I found a four-leaf clover when I found you\' also inside the card was a four-leaf clover. I promised her that I would find out the rest of the poem for her. Sadly she passed away before I had chance to find anything out but I\'m still very keen to find out more. If you could help at all I would be very grateful. I was very close to my Grandma and I know she would want me to find the rest of the poem.

Yesterday my 8 yr old granddaughter Kayla ask me to go play with her outside. I said \"Lets look for 4 leaf clovers instead.\" It was a beautiful sunny day here in S.C. so we headed outside. Her daddy (my son) joined us and we started searching on our hands and knees. With in aprox. 5 minutes my son found three four leaf clovers and one five leaf clover. When he found the first one I told him to put it in his billfold in a picture holder. I told them about how my daddy and I had looked for four leaf clover in my hometown in Ga. in 1958. He found one and put it in his bill fold inside a picture holder. I never saw it again untill he died in 1969. I was 17 yrs. old. I still have it and it always carries me back to the day we found it fourty six years ago. I hope someday when Kayla is about \"seventy\" years old she will look into her daddies bill fold and remember the day he found the four leaf clover in 2004. Hopefully she will remember me being there too.

All of my life i have always searched for a four leaf clover and i have never found one. About 10 minutes ago, i went outside at a friends house and noticed a clover patch and decided to search for four leaf clover, something i haven\'t done since i was about 14 or so, i am now 23. After about 5 minutes of searching, I found one. It was amazing. I am definitely convinced that it is something special and I am going outside to search for more.

i am considering becoming a professional four-leaf clover hunter - that is, selling things with 4-leafs on them. at the age of 33, i\'ve found hundreds and hundreds of 4-leaves, dozens of 5-leaves, perhaps 8 or 9 6-leaves, 2 7-leaves and an 8-leaf, which is my record.

HOW TO FIND THEM
by Pan Walker

1 - When you find one, look very carefully at every clover near it. They almost NEVER grow alone.

2 - Sometimes you find them without trying. If you find yourself looking at a single clover without thinking about it, look closer - it\'s often a four-leaf. Your mind picked it out for you.

3 - Clovers with more than 3 leaves are mutations. Look where chemicals like oil or gas might be washed away. That is, immediately next to a road (or a driveway, gas station, or a tool shed), preferably downhill (where rainwater would wash away the chemicals). I\'ve also found abnormal amounts in patches near nuclear reactors, but it might have just been where a lot of the construction machinery had been parked...

4 - If you sit down and really want to find one, clear your mind. Just look. Your mind starts to see the pattern the 3-leaves make, and any deviation from that natural pattern will catch your eye. But you need to enjoy just LOOKING, so that you feel like you\'ve wasted your time if you don\'t find one.

5 - Bigger, older, wilder patches usually have more.

6 - Start by looking around the edges of patches. They\'re easier to spot, and closer to sources of mutation pollution.

7 - From my experience, it\'s easier to find the four-leaf clovers if the leaves have that white stripe flowing near the stem. Also, it\'s easier to find them if the clovers appear to be growing directly out of the ground, rather than from one visible root bundle.

I actually spent some time last Friday looking for them in a friend\'s yard, where I had seen one out of the corner of my eye when I got out of my car. In a few small neighboring patches, I found 20 four-leaves and 2 five-leaves. The patches were three feet downhill from a curve in the road on one side, and adjacent to the lower end of the driveway on the other side.

Good Luck!

A few people wanted to know about the probabilities of finding 5-leaf clovers (or more). To the best of my knowledge, there is no scientific data on this.

4-leaves are rare, 5-leaves are very rare, and 6-or-more-leaves are very very rare. how\'s that?

one of the problems is that environmental conditions can really make a big difference. the chances of finding a 5-leaf in a big field in the middle of nowhere are probably going to be greater than finding one in the middle of your back yard, as the age of the clover patch appears to increase your chances (and your back yard gets mowed). the chances of finding one at the downhill edge of a gas station\'s driveway are much greater than in the wild, though. someone here said they found a twenty-plus leaf clover at the foot of a waterfall, which ties in to my theory about pollution runoff propagating clover mutation...

in pristine conditions with no human interference and no pollution, i\'m guessing the chances of finding a four-leaf clover are between 1 in 1000 and 1 in 10000, and i would guess that for every leaf above four, your chances would decrease by a power of 5 or 10...

that\'s just my opinion, though. i don\'t think there\'s much scientific data on 5-leaf probabilities, just as there\'s little data on the effects of petrochemicals (or radiation) on multiple-leaf mutations...

Yesterday I found a four leaf clover. I was walking along thinking that I may find a four leaf clover amongst the clover in the grass. Walking through the grass I did not find one. Walking on the sidewalk I looked down right at the four leaf clover growing on the side of the sidewalk. It was like it had a beacon. I could hardly believe my eyes. Finding this gem made me feel whole somehow. I had found what I thought was a myth. This was the day my first Niece was born. She was born with red curly hair and red eyelashes. A true Irish Lass! Today I found a five leaf clover! I wonder who the heck will have twins in my family! Just kidding. I found the five leaf clover in almost the same spot I found the four leaf clover. I am pressing and drying both to save. The four leaf clover will be given to my Niece. I will give it to her when she turns 4. I will tell her the story for her entire life. I hope it makes her feel blessed. Kylee 8lbs.6oz 19 inches long 4/14/04.

I find hundreds of 4-leaf clovers every year. Yesterday I found more than 50 of them within 2 hours. I pressed them all in some books and will laminate them in a few days. I am curious about the 5-leaf clovers as well though because I found at least a dozen of those today. My family seems to think it's strange that I can find 4-leaf clovers so easily because I have poor vision without my glasses. Somehow I manage to find at least 1 every day though (but almost always more than that) in the summer months.

Just when I thougt things couldn'nt get any better, I looked slightly to my left and saw a four-leafed clover. I picked these andwas about to get up, when I saw a six-leafer! I took them inside and put them in individual vacume-sealed hard plastic cards-labled with the date and location. Yesterday evening around seven, I was walking from Daejeon University (in South Korea)back to my dorm. As a matter of fact, I don't usually try to search for four-leaf clovers. But while walking towards the gate of the university the idea just struck me and I looked down at the clovers growing by the roadside. And---there it was, a four-leaf clover! It stood there as if it had just grown within a second! I gasped and couldn't believe my eyes! However, my heart was filled with joy and excitement immediately. After picking it up with great care, I suddenly got another idea: maybe I could find another one to give my little sister Weiwei. So I started searching. And within just another few seconds, the second four-leaf clover jumped into my sight! It's much smaller than the first one, as if God had read my mind and sent it down from heaven!
Later I kept searching, but couldn't find any more. However, I'm totally thrilled and content enough to have found two!
So glad to find this website to share my excitement and joy with all of you!

Thank you very much, Adam!

Sorry, I think, I probably have everyone beat, when it comes to "clovers"
I find them daily here in my yard!
One day I was sitting by my back deck and found a patch of clovers and within 5-10 min.s I had found
2-7 leaf
1-6 leaf
5-5 leaf
and,
20-4 leaf clovers.
I have them all in my freezer and a few pic.s of them.
My son thinks I am a God! He can't seem to find any!!
I really don't have alot of patience, but for some reason everytime I look down I find them!
Sounds weird, but is true!

I have found more when i am with my boyfriend than any other time. his fascination with my ability has convinced me to look into this phenomenon. i'm surprised to see so many other people are the same way. are we all just lucky or is there some other explanation???

the most amazing time i've had finding four leaf clovers was the other day at my boyfriend's friend's house. i happened to actually look down at a patch of clovers and think "i want to find a four leaf clover right now" and no sooner had i thought it, one was right there. it was if something led my eyes right to it!

I don't know wether this post will really interest you all or not, but I have found somewhere that you can all find your very own 4-leaf clover.

I was interested in finding out more about the history of the clover and its ascociation to luck when I stumbled across this website that actually sells them. God only knows how they can find enough as they are supposed to be rare

www.atwoodandgold.co.uk

From the description there it seems that these are Real 4-leaf Clovers that have been dipped into gold to create necklace's, brooches or even earrings!

Would this bring the same luck though? as it is a real leaf I think yes. What do you think?

Has anyone tried one of these and are they any good?

This first day of 2005 I have tallied all the clover finds I made last year and am amazed myself but perfectly honest when I announce that in 2004 I found 571 four leaf clovers, 65 fives, 2 sixes, and 1 seven leaf clover. I absolutely love finding them. And I believe that the luck is in the joy of finding them. For those who may wonder how it is done, there are tricks to it, such as scanning for a break in the pattern, getting a feel for the types of patches that yield multiples, etc.
Best of luck to all who seek the same sweet and peaceful pleasure.

Today I found four 5 leaf clovers. Freaks my husband out, don't know why. They were all within six inches of each other. Quit looking I got after 4. Usually when I start humming "I'm looking over a four leaf clover" I'll look down and find one. Kinda weird but fun.

FOUR LEAF CLOVER TALK TO ME. It's true. It's totally amazing. Myhusband said he would actually have me committed if I didn't have the clovers to prove it. They say hello, or Look here and one even said, I had to duck so I didn't get mowed down and when I glanced down, there was this little four leaf clover, it had one of its leaves half cut off by a lawn mower. I never look unless they call out, one recently heard one say... I'm the smallest one ever and as I looked down it saw it folded up and I unfolded the smallest one I have ever found. I found four in a row and I thought to myself I will have to share one with my friend and I heard a voice say, You are so nice, I turned toward the direection if the "voice" and there was a beautiful five leaf clover. I am a little freaked out...are you?

I just found my first two four leaf clovers 2 days ago. Today I found about a dozen, along with a few five leaf clovers and a six leaf clover. At first it was just a life goal to find a single four leaf clover, now its turning into a hobby.

Today my sister came up to me with five four leaf clovers in her hand. She told me to come outside and help her find more. After looking in a corner of my backyard for thirty minutes we found literally a hundred four leaf clovers. This is unheard of.

I found this site by clicking onto a story line I found interesting. This whole site is very interesting. Yesterday while looking through my sisters scrapbook there was a page full of 4 and 5 leaf clovers on it. These were the ones she used to look for all the time. My sister has been dead for over 20 years. She used to find these clovers all the time. I wish she was here now she would love to read all the comments on this site.

well,i really don't believe in superstitions.never the less,4 leaf clovers kind of seem like bad luck to me.i found one spring of 1992.i won't go into details, but that was a very bad year for me.i've found several over the years.it mostly depends upon whether i look for them or not.this year-just a few days ago- i was amazed to find a patch of clovers containing 9 or so 4-leafs and a few 5-leafs (the first 5 leafs i've ever seen).pretty little mutants.maybe they don't bring me good luck because i always find ones with holes in them.every single 4-leaf in the patch was damaged.i have never found one that isn't.

I've found that if there is one 4-leafer in a patch, there are probably more. I started finding them when I was about 10. I found 57 the first day. The next day I went back to the same patch and found 35 more. My daughter's first day of school we found 8 waiting for the bus at her stop. We found several every day while we lived there. In all I've found over 500 in my life so far and I'm only 36. :)

Tonight I took a walk outside one of the New Brunswick (Canada) college buildings where I teach and stumbled on a few patches of clover. I am not too superstitious and I don’t even remember if I found one as a kid, but I started to look in earnest to change my luck (I need not get into that). To my amazement, I not only found one that was cut by the ground keeper's lawn mower but four other whole ones! FIVE four-leaf clovers - I think my luck has and will definitely change for the better! Just thought I would share my joy!

After reading some comments on this page that where you find 1 clover, you'll find more I decided to look for myself! Soon after going to a clover plant in my front yard I found one! Then 2,3... To date (June 20)I have found 25 four-leaf clovers and 3 five-leaf clovers. As the lawn is mowed, just more grow from the same plant!

I seem to find four leaf clovers every day. This week alone I have found 223. (Including 4's, 5's & 6's)
I find the most of them in My yard in Nebraska. I also find them at rest areas and gas stations or just about everywhere. I most that I have found in one day was 75, my neice was visiting and she helped me pick, press and count them. I dry them for several days then laminate them and I pass them out to every one that I meet to keep the good luck going. I am a very lucky person I know and God has blessed me so much.

My cousin loves to hunt for four leaf clovers. He's actually hunted them his whole life (Which would probably be about... 29 years? Maybe....). In a single afternoon, and JUST a afternoon, he found 16 (or more) clovers in my uncle's wife's front yard. And he wasn't even looking that hard. Over his entire lifetime, he's found hundreds of four leaf clovers, some five leaf clovers, seven, eight and even NINE leaf clovers!!!! Can you believe this?! He says that it's really just a matter of instinct. You view an area, and decide if you get a certain feel for it, then search. If there's no vibe, it most likely won't have any clovers over three leaves. But, that's just my cousin for ya. ^_~

I have found 9 four leaf clovers in the last 3 weeks, the first 2 and the the last two pairs I found within about 20 minutes of each other. Its becomming quite an obession, I am watching the clover patches anywhere I go. However, given that the oft quoated statistic is 1 in 10,000, I am wondering if that statistic can be right. And, given that apparently these are caused by mutations, and I have found at least one four leaf clover from each variety there is in my area (Seattle) (there must be at least 4 distinct species or subspecies given color, shape, size variation) (I think this rules out that some specific strain has kept a 4 leaf clover prone mutation)... If that statistic is right, I am wondering if maybe my neighborhood has a high level of mutagens?

I knew there must be "others" with the knack! I've surprised people so many times in my life with four leaf clovers. Almost everyone I have ever known has one saved in a wallet or scrapbook of maybe their junk drawers. I give them away. I have a few saved that have sentimental value. I had discovered that I had the knack when I was ten years old. I didn't know at that time that I would find them so easily throughout my life. A few things I've noticed along the way: If I have to "look for" them, then there are none, so I don't spend hours scanning. When one shows itself readily then there are usually more in the same area. When they are left alone (i.e. on the side of a highway in the blazing hot summer sun) they will row to freakish proportions. The most leaves I have seen is 13! I have a special affection for the seven-leaf clovers. I have kept a giant sized 4 leafer found in 1980 in the glove compartment of each car I've owned. Laminated clovers will lose color eventually, but encased in acrylic they will be preserved forever.

I had just finished running and I sat down on the grass to stretch, there was a patch of clover and I thought to myself, "I wonder if there is a 4 leaf clover in there." I looked to the left and there it was just looking up at me. I picked it and I'll keep it forever. finding this clover has filled me with so much joy!!!

What a kick to find others who are even remotely interested in four leaf clovers! Over the years I have found hundreds. Also many 5's and a few six's. Have pressed and shared many. Furthest from my home was in Tallin, Estonia; a long way from Springfield, Illinois! Have been told that I must have a knack for finding them. Actually I believe that sometimes it's luck, but mostly it's patience. Also, it's very relaxing to sit in the grass next to a field of clover looking for these green treasures! Unfortunately, it's hard to find them in Illinois in December! Hurry Spring!

In the mid '70s I realized I had a knack for finding what I now call "hyperfoliate clovers" when I was walking through a field with a friend and found about a dozen as we walked. Occasionally I would actually get around to pressing them. In the mid '80s, I actually looked for them and found that although rare, they are everywhere, some places more than others. I have done no research, so I do not know if it is temperature or humidity or nutrients (or lack of) or toxics that cause them, but only one plant out of dozens will usually have them, and a rare plant will have lots of them. One time riding a bike ( about 10-15 mph) with a friend near Rock Island, IL, I saw some on a plant and stopped to pick them. There were 21 of them. Once in Ohio, during an hour long lunch break, I found over 130 of them on one plant. In the mid 1990s I had arthroscopic surgery on one knee, and as therapy, I walked slowly and hunted clovers. In the next 3 years, I collected over 7,000 4-leaf clovers, hundreds of 5's dozens of 6's and a few 8's. One time I found a 9 leaf clover at a friend's house where I went to do weightlifting and put it in my jacket pocket. When I remembered it, it was just crumbs :-( I have not really hunted them for several years now, (What are they good for anyway?) but occasionally, I will see a clover patch and go look it over just to make sure I have not lost the touch.

I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and my 7yr old son comes in and says, "Mom am I lucky". I turned around puzzled and asked why. He said look I found a four-leaf clover, I must be lucky. As I took it from his hand completely skeptical I looked at it. Sure enough it was a tiny four leaf clover. I just looked at him and said you sure are. Then, told him to make a wish. I thought it was pretty amazing. Especially, since I used to look for them hours upon hours when I was a little girl. ;)

Now - does that mean good luck, bad luck, or do they just cancel each other out?

The comment by Corrie Garneau up the top is not accurate as I have found hundreds of 4 leaf clovers over the yrs- some only tiny new ones just sprouted, some large with anatomically correct leaf shape , some not.It is not that they have lived a long life that gives them an extra leaf as a newly sprouted one, would therefor, not have and extra leaf.I am not trying to be argumentative - just accurate. I have also found several 5 leaf clovers and one 6 leaf clover ( not sure if these bring extra luck if any one knows let me know)They also come in all the varieites of clover the classic ones with the white rings on the leaves, the ones with the little heart shape dots on the leaves etc etc.Happy Hunting

I went on a trip with my school recently and was at a reptile sanctuary when, listening to the teacher talking about how rare it was to see (i think) a Huckerberry Toad, when i glanced down as i was tired and there it was. I Have to say it was noticeable because it was slightly taller than the rest before i picked it. i Reckon that the luck is already cast apon you and that it is juts realised when you find the four leaved clover. I think this because, as i said earlier, my teacher said about how RARE it was to see a Huckerberry Toad so this may explain something...?

I just found 3 four-leaf clovers, 2 five-leaf clovers and a six-leaf clover within about 10 minutes in my front yard. I was letting my disabled cat run outside and thought I'd hunt for some while waiting for him to finish chasing bugs. I've found several other 4-, 5-, and 6-leaf ones before, but that's been many moons ago... mostly when I was a little girl. I consider these gifts from God, and press them. Someone earlier said that the four-leaf ones are just older clovers, and that's not true. About half of the clovers I found today are tiny baby ones.

I am very pleased with your site. I had been wondering how many people found lots of four leaf clovers, and now I know: lots of people. Myself, to date I have found over 3000 four leaf clovers, hundreds of five leaf clovers, about 10 six leaf clovers, one seven leaf clover, and I saw my little sister find a nine leaf clover. I have heard the record is 18 leaves. They are caused by a combination of recessive genes and environmental factors causing mutation (you can tell, if you look that some clovers naturally grow four leaves, and others grow three first then have one split to make four, or five or nine as it were) As to whether they are lucky, I think theat each one gives you enough luck to find one more, and anyone who wants to can find as many as they want to if they know how to look.

That was just while I had the puppy outside to potty. My question is one of environmental safety. My daughter suggested that these were probably mutants, caused by environment. I live in an industrial area that has numerous refineries, along the gulf coast. Would poor air quality cause this to happen to clover?? Anyone??

I love 4-leaf clovers!

I feel happy when I find one and I feel special in some way. I think that is the good luck that they bring. They help us feel good for a day or an hour or for the rest of our lives! They are a gift to us from our Mother! It doesn't matter if some people don't believe that they bring good luck... because if I believe they bring good fortune, then for me... they do!

I have found them occasionally throughout my childhood and it was always a memorable and happy occasion for sharing with others. Now I live in Geneva, Switzerland and I have found about 10 of them in the past two years, just out back in the courtyard. And last week, I found my first 5-leaf clover! I didn't pick that one... it was too special.

I've enjoyed reading these posts to see that there are many people, like me, who appreciate the small things in life!

May the good luck of life be always with you!

I have had a knack for finding 4 leaf clovers since I was a child. I can spot them immediately. Almost every time I go out in the yard I bring back in several. I never pass a clover patch that I don't look for a 4 leaf. Yesterday afternoon I was outside for 20 minutes and brought back in 32 4 leaf clovers that I found in 5 different clover patches through out the yard. This morning I found 10 4 leafs and 2 5 leaf clovers. I should be the luckiest girl in the world and who knows maybe I am. I will keep on looking for those 4 leafs.

I recently stumbled across a four leafed clover at my school and was incredibly pleased. I once found two on my primary school oval right near each other and consequently didn't think they were that rare. I was 9 at the time. After I learned of their rarity and significance I have always kept an eye open for the four leaved flower. I went back to where i found the four leaved clover recently and to my astonishment I witnessed another four leaved clover and a six leaved!
I carefully removed them from the ground right down to their roots and have planted them in a pot with the hope to breed them for my own satisfaction.

In the past month I've found 14 four leaf clovers in my rather small yard. I have a large patch of clover on the side of my house and I just decided to look for one. I looked around for about 5 minutes and started to get frustrated and sat down. Low and behold when I turned my head and looked I saw it staring right at me! I hurried inside to press it so it wouldn't wither (I put it in a picture frame with family picture...for luck). The I went back outside to see if I could by chance find another one. I found a total of four and my middle daughter found 5!
The next week I found another 3, and my daughter, husband, and brother all found one, too.
I think if you look in a patch of clover, you can find one or several really, but it's a little overwhelming amongst the hundreds of 3 leafed clovers.
Anyway...I'm hoping to get all that luck any day now. Ha ha.

It's interesting to see other people's ideas about 4-leaf clovers.
For myself, I have found so many I have no idea. I remember find 600 one summer as a teenager when I was challenging myself.
I have also found many 5, quite a few 6 and 7 leaves and one 8 and one 9 leaf clover.
After I became and adult and moved to the city, the opportunity to find interesting clover has decreased. But I still love it when I find them. Now, I often give them to other people because they're like puppies--they just make people happy.

While looking for my sons lost soccer ball I found a gingko tree growing wild on our property in Canada. Showed my son the leaves, and we looked it up in a tree book to be sure. (Turns out it has special meaning to buddhists, something about good fortune).
My 8 year old son "made up" his own buddhist luck ritual and came outside to tell me about it. I mentioned how lucky he already is to which he replied "You can never have too much luck, Dad.." then he walked over to where I was standing, knelt down and picked a four leaf clover from beside my foot.
Bizarre but true!

I was planning my "wedding trilogy" for three weekends in July and I needed wedding favors for my guests. One day while giving workshops for teachers I happened to find two 4-leaf clovers and I came up with the idea that if I could find more, then I could give one to each of my wedding party guests. During the next 3 days I spent about 3 hours per day searching for clover after the workshops before dark. I found 73 4-leafs, 3 5-leafs, and 1 6-leaf. It seemed to be a sign, since the first of the three weddings was on 7/7/7 and 73+3+1=77! The clover were a big hit with my guests, who all got one as a favor, along with fossils I found at a nearby road-cut, and since then I have found many more. Now I am giving them out to my students when they do something exceptional, accompanied by 4 bonus points, such as first to volunteer to present at the board, most improved test grade, or best assignment submission. In answer to the person who asked what they might do with the clover, here are 3 suggestions. Laminate that does not require heating will preserve and protect them. Placing them between two sheets of wax paper and applying a barely warm iron will seal them and allow for a pretty window hanging (include dried flowers, too). Make your own paper and press the clover into the slurry after it is on the screen before pressing the water out with a sponge (you may need to apply puzzle glue after the paper dries to protect the clover). I did all three options with mine and the results are terrific! Now I'm attempting to confirm that the reason the extra leaves are smaller are indeed because they grow after the formation of the original 3 leaves. Although it makes sense, I'd like to see some scientific evidence.

once when I was visiting my dad (was probably 12 or thirteen then) I spent a whole afternoon in a clover patch outside his apartment and found 14 fourleaf clovers I think I still have them somewhere in a bag, maybe I don't have them anymore.

By the way... not sure why you require your last name to post a comment... maybe something else would be better, because your last name is on the copy write line below the flower field picture...
