Documentation

The next few sections comprise a quick start guide to accessing many of iKnapsack's features.

Browsing the Web

iKnapsack lets you open a URL with the specified iKnapsack-enabled web browser on your handheld. Third-party applications can use iKnapsack to open URLs with your default web browser. iKnapsack supports the following URL types:

Opening Your Email Client

iKnapsack lets you open the email client specified in Preferences by tapping on the Email icon on iKnapsack's main screen.

Third-party applications can send messages with your default email client by communicating with iKnapsack.

Adjusting Preferences

iKnapsack's default preferences depend on which Palm organizer you have.

Choosing your email, web browser, and web clipping application viewer

Changing the list font

You can change the font used in the Web Clipping Apps and Plug-ins Lists by selecting Menu->Font. If you are running Palm OS 3.0 or higher, a dialog will appear allowing you to choose from 3 fonts. If you are running an older version of the Palm OS, selecting Menu->Font will toggle between a bold and plain font in the Web Clipping Apps and Plug-in Lists.

Working with Web Clipping Applications

Web clipping applications were first introduced with the Palm VII wireless connected organizer. Users of non-Palm VII handhelds can download web clipping applications to their devices, but they will not be to use them since those devices do not have a web clipping application viewer installed. You can still beam and delete web clipping applications from these devices using iKnapsack.

It is possible in the future that non-Palm VII devices will be able to use web clipping applications. In the meantime, the following tips and techniques are for Palm VII users.

Using Plug-ins On Web Sites

The most powerful feature of iKnapsack is its use of iKnapsack Plug-in Technology. With the plug-ins that come with iKnapsack, you can add address, dates, to do items, memos, and expenses from web pages.

Adding Web Site Support

A web site must first add iKnapsack support to their content. This is very easy to do and is covered in depth on the iKnapsack Developer Web Page.

Using An iKnapsack-enabled Web Browser

In addition, you will need to use an iKnapsack-enabled browser to make use of iKnapsack Plug-ins. Refer to the iKnapsack Web Page for a complete list of supported browsers. If you browser is not on the list, email the developers and request that they include iKnapsack support in the next release of their browser. Making a web browser iKnapsack-enabled is a trivial process and is detailed on the iKnapsack Developer Web Page.

Working With iKnapsack Data On The Web

If you are using an iKnapsack-enabled browser and come across a link to iKnapsack content on the Web, simply tap on the link to run the plug-in. iKnapsack will inform you if the requested plug-in is not installed on your system or if there is an error while running the plug-in.
