Welcome to the first Vienna Teng Fan Club Web Site!

I saw and heard Vienna Teng for the first time last night on David Letterman. She has the most beautiful music and voice. I have been looking for a song for my wedding and I think I will look further into her music for that song. She's amazing.

I also saw Vienna last night on Letterman and I was BLOWN AWAY!! I have spent all afternoon looking for lyrics to her haunting, amazing music. Not since discovering my beloved Tori and Sarah (so many years ago) has such an angelic voice and phenomenal piano-playing touched me so deeply! I now have a new favorite! Where can I get her lyrics?

I was studying for my American Government final last night and decided to tune in to Letterman because I heard Simon Cowell was going to be on it. The biggest surprise was Vienna singing! Wow! I am checking out her music now and I can't wait to buy "Waking Hour."
Her voice and music left me breathless. Like a breath of air, her song "Gravity" was refreshing to hear.--posted by Kenneth @ Tuesday, January 21 2003, 19:41 pm EST

I saw the David Letterman show, for like the first time last night, and i was going back and forth until i saw that Vienna was going to be singing, so i was like, "ok, i'll watch her" and i got goosebumps listening to her sing, and watching her hands move so gracefully over the keys of the piano. Immediatly i went online trying to find the song she sang (Gravity) and downloaded the four songs i could find, and now i can't wait to buy Waking Hour to hear the rest of the Album.

A few nights ago, I saw Vienna Teng on David Letterman while I was wasting time before writing an essay. Music like hers rarely inspires me enough to find out more about an artist, let alone the musical guests on late night television. However, the voice and piano of her music touched that chord in my soul, allowing it to reverberate and celebrate Nature's melody that sounds out from her music. I planned on chaging the channel to Leno, but I dared not move from the aural captivation. Thanks Vienna Teng.

Oh yessss!!! I saw Vienna by accident, it seems, on David Letterman's show...and to say I was blown away would be an understatement. Then it was a search for more Vienna exposure for me...which culminated in my receiving Waking Hour in the mail this week courtesy of CD Baby. I love this CD, especially "Gravity" and "Lullabye For A Stormy Night". But make no mistake. The entire album is strong. Vienna is the best kept secret in music today. But this, too, shall pass.

I heard Vienna yesterday on NPR for the first time, and I literally sat in my car for thirty minutes to wait and hear what her name was and the title of the song. The song was "Eric's Song" and I was in tears at the end of it. I've never been so moved by music in my life. Her voice possesses so much purity and truth. She is absolutely AMAZING!!

I am from Germany and was lucky to listen to Vienna Teng in a huge public bookstore in Palo Alto for the first time. I was so moved and touched that I immediately inquired who that most beautiful voice had and bought her CD. Unfortunately at the end of my holidays I had to catch my return flight. Otherwise I definetly would have stayed for her performing in exact that bookstore the other day.
Back in Germany I listen to Viennas tender piano parts in "Waking hour" every night before going to sleep. It is a wonderful memory to my holidays as well.
Germany will come to know her...--posted by Susanne @ Friday, February 21 2003, 4:25 am EST

I am a 41 year old mother and teacher, and I read about Vienna Teng in the SF Chronicle, logged on to her website, and ordered 3 CD's of "waking hour" on the basis of her life story and listeners' comments on Amazon.com. My CD's came on Friday, gave one to a friend who was over and wanted to know what I was listening to (so beautiful, she said!), and I have been listening to her songs for 3 days straight now. They are so poignant and full of emotional range. I really commend Vienna for following her dream!

Vienna Teng is a remarkable poet, and possesses a beautiful singing voice. But I think I most appreciate her as a pianist.
When she plays, one hears everything that makes her who she is - brilliance, compassion, vulnerability, depth. Numerous other qualities, too too many to mention, some without names.
As much as I love her singing and her lyrics, I hope she will someday release an album of instrumentals. I could listen to her play for days on end.
In her words:
Fingers kissed the keys oh so tenderly
cool ivory returned in kind

When I downloaded Vienna's music from her web site, I found something that I had been looking for quite some time. Her music masterfully instantiates sincere emotion while maintaining an air if expressive dignity with measured repose. I do not purchase CD's published by members of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) because of the civil liberty violations they commit, the oppressive legislation that they lobby for, and the poor way that they treat their artists. I was delighted to find that Vienna was publishing her work though an independent label, and so I ran out today and purchased her Waking Hour CD. If Vienna had allowed me to pay to download FLAC and Ogg Vorbis encoded audio files from her web site, I would have done that, but I was happy with what Vienna had available. We need more talented artists like Vienna Teng who are willing to promote their works through free songs made available on the Internet and who do not sign on with the RIAA. Artists like Vienna Teng are helping us to see what the music industry should be like in a modern society. When she comes to Austin, you can bet thay I will be buying a ticket to see her in concert!

Although I saw Vienna Teng in concert almost a week ago in SF, I am still in the bliss that is her ethereal music, poetry, and piano melodies. Vienna is the avant garde music talent of the century. She is one of the most brilliant, fascinating, and poetic people I've seen and heard - and whose music I now absolutely adore. What also amazes me is her divine array of talent: Vienna studied as a premedical student at Stanford for two years before switching to a CS major, after which she became a developer for Cisco and now has signed onto an independent record label to become a professional musician.
Musically, Vienna is the epitomy of what a true artist should be: a writer, composer, and singer who can play her own instrument while instilling meaning into lyrics with natural grace and fluency. In addition to the pristine vocals and music, every song on her CD is lush with poetry scintillating with such visceral meaning that almost effects a rebirth in you to yearn for only music like hers.
A friend who heard her the other day instantly described her as a mix of Sarah Mclachlan and Enya. I'm not exactly sure if that simple characterization befits Vienna, but if you continue to browse the Internet for more information and reviews on this amazing artist, I bet you will see that she is in a league of her own.
Vienna is definitely one of the greatest artists I've come across in my life, and I urge everyone to explore her music. She is musician, singer, poet, and utter genius entwined as one. Be sure to check out Vienna in concert - especially while she's still playing in smaller venues - because you will get to experience her music in its immaculate form, woven to life on the piano as it was once beautifully conceived.--posted by Eric W @ Friday, September 19 2003, 4:36 am EDT

Vienna sort of snuck up on me. I picked up one of those little postcards that announced her appearance at Borders. I looked her up on the internet, listened to Tower and Gravity and was hooked.
I went to her show in Seattle at the Crocodile Club. She was amazing. So beautiful and ethereal. She has a great stage presence with a charming stories. Of course when she sings and plays her whole presence is involved and for those moments, she is almost translucent and you can see the light of her soul.
If you haven't been to her Website, it has all the lyrics to the Waking Hours cd and samples of the songs.
Now all of you go out and ask your radio stations to play her!--posted by Crystallin @ Thursday, September 25 2003, 0:58 am EDT

The second album WARM STRANGERS is much better than the first one. A few of the songs that she sang during her tour finally made the album. My Medea is absolutely dramatic. The uptempo Hope on fire is quite catchy. And the creepy and morbid Passage that she sang without any accompaniments is surfacing here just like how she sang on the show.

When I first heard Vienna sing on CNN's NewsNight with Aaron Brown on Christmas eve night, I was blown away. For an all too brief moment, it sounded as if a young Janis Ian had again taken center stage with her wonderfully crafted words and haunting voice. Nope, I was wrong, it was another...a captivatingly beautiful young woman with a voice to match.

Last year I was looking for live music in Madison and found she was to be at Cafe Montmontre. It\'s an intimate setting, perfect for Vienna\'s music. She came alone, and truth be told, she didn\'t need any other accompaniment. I was grateful to talk with her and have her sign my CD. Such big music from such a tiny person!
